Dimitri the Platypus

herculeantask:

“Yes, I… well.  I have had an interesting day, I suppose.”

{He really does seem tired… Maybe Dimitri should be looking for an out, so he doesn’t have to subject Alphendi and Lucy to his presence any longer.}

“I am sorry for causing such tiredness in you, Mister Alphendi.  That was not my intent.”

“Truly, I apologize.”

“Hey, quit apologizin’ so much, honestly! It weren’t yer fault, Mistah Dimitri - it was the grey-face. But if you feel like you gotta go, sure, go ahead. We’ll talk tommorow and see how you’re goin’ after all that, though, if ya feel like goin’ now and all that…”

Lucy’s usual blunt honesty aside, she had a good point there - or she liked to hope she did, anyway.

Well, it helps if there's a negation somewhere nearby. Otherwise...I'm afraid you'll have to put up with it for a while, unless you can find help. And, please, we're not blobs any more than you are cats.

“Aw man - I was hoping so much I could tell Alphi there was a ‘definite’ way to repel those spells…oh well.”

Shrugging, she says:

“Thanks anyway, though. Sorry about calling you a ‘blob’. You just seem like that - either that, or ‘grey faces’, most of the time. If you think of a way to repel spells all the time, could ya pass it on? I just want ta do it for ‘boss’s sake, really! Not mine.”

Why, I'm proud that we can give you a decent enough puzzle simply from our existence. And for the record, I'm not like the majority of my family. I only use magic to help others. Though, to be honest, sometimes...I accidentally help people when they don't want or need it.

“Hm…right’o, then. Can I ask ya one thing before you go, though? If a nastier grey blob tries to cast a spell you don’t want on you - how would you ‘repel’ it? I wanna know so Alphi don’t have to worry about ‘me’ being cursed as well as much…”

You and your, *ahem*, partner make me proud to be a gray-face, however derogatory that term is and how bad of a reputation we have.

“Eh? And why do we make ya proud, grey-face?

Also, if you were all a bit nicer ta everyone, I wouldn’t call you such insulting terms. Just saying.”

Dimitri the Platypus

herculeantask:

“Really, Mister Alphendi… thank you.”

“My spell did not have a time-limit… I was a bit worried I would be stuck in that form.”

{He seems a bit tired… perhaps Dimitri is overstaying his welcome?}

“Wait - didn’t have a time limit? I thought all magic ‘had’ to have a limit to it, Mistah Dimitri…hmph. Guess those grey strangers are hiding a lot more than we thought initially. But you’re yourself again, and that’s awesome! Glad that me and boss could assist, though really, boss did all the work here. Anyways, that’s neither here nor there… You look like castin’ that spell took a bit outta ya, boss…you gonna be okay?”

Dimitri the Platypus

herculeantask:

{There’s something different about the glow this time… it’s a bit stronger, a bit more vivid.  The air itself crackles with energy, and a terrible buzzing fills Dimitri’s head before, with a puff of smoke, he’s himself again, sitting awkwardly on the small coffee-table.}

“Th-thank you…”

Lucy’s eyes widen as the purple glow seems to crackle almost like electricity in the air all a sudden when it was a mere faint glow before - seeming practically ‘alive’ with energy and stubborness - she knows her mouth must be hanging open by this point, but she really cannot help herself: to be witness to such powers beyond imagination is just…incredible. And to think that Alphendi - a man who believes in science as much as his mother does - is able to wield this ability thanks to such a thing as human thought…

It all seems quite the spectacle, and as Dimitri timidly thanks her boss, Lucy grins and says:

“You did good, boss! Real good…just like I thought you would!”

Dimitri the Platypus

herculeantask:

{As Lucy and Alphendi had been talking, Dimitri had pulled himself up onto a low coffee-table, watching them.  Alphendi’s attempt at magic is stunning, the purple glow captivating Dimitri as it happens, and he watches eagerly, enveloped in a purple glow of his own.

He’s a bit less eager when nothing happens.}

Lucy watches on, eyes wide - but despite Alphendi seeming to focus as best he can and that almost mystical glow somewhat entracing: nothing seems to happen, and Dimitri looks a bit disapointed, to say the least. Huffing, the rookie investigator promptly decides that if friendship and sheer desire to help others isn’t strong enough, she’s going to have to help more. Speaking up, she said:

“Don’t give up, Alphi! Okay, there’s no result yet - but I know that you can do this. Just like how I know I can count on you to help me solve investigations I can’t do alone- I know you really wanna help him, too! So go for it!”

{Dimitri squirms a bit in Lucy’s arms as he listens, wanting to be set down.  It’s a bit humiliating to have to be carried everywhere, and he does need to learn how to work his limbs a bit better.  Alphendi’s words light a small bit of hope in him, but it’s soon crushed.

After all, if he needs strong emotions to use his magic… well, Dimitri isn’t exactly known for inducing strong emotions in people.}

Lucy puts Dimitri down once Alphendi closes the door, before musing:

“Powerful emotions? Hm. Well, I know you must really want to help him - you said so yourself! But I dunno if that’ll be strong enough on it’s own, so - time to give a bit of help!”

With that, she carefully makes her way to Alphendi and hugs him, saying:

“Our close friendship’s a strong ‘emotion’, too…right?”

herculeantask:

{It does sound a bit ridiculous, and Dimitri clicks a bit in sympathy, squirming in Lucy’s arms until he’s looking directly at Alphendi.  His hat nearly falls off, and he brings a forepaw up to straighten it, clicking again.  He can’t seem to control those noises as well as he’d like, a bit of animal instinct making itself known.}

Lucy just kind of…blankly stares at the doves for a moment, before giggling amusedly at how pudgy and content they look up there, but clears her throat afterwards, saying:

“Well gosh, that’s weird: but hey! Look on the bright side, maybe you can use this magic to help Mister Dimitri? He seems to be having a hard time with all this…so the sooner we find a way to change him back, the betetr. Move aside, I’m gonn bring him in now, okay?”

That said, Lucy entered the place - trying not to stare at the several items that had been knocked over by the birds.

Dimitri the Platypus

herculeantask:

{Though Miss Crelia is rather short, being up in her arms is still a bit too high for Dimitri in his tiny form, and he curls into her a bit as they walk, cautious of being dropped.}

Thankfully for Mister Dimitri, Lucy wastes little time in reaching the ‘investigation base’ - despite several odd looks by passer-by for carrying a animal normally not seen in the city around. Knocking firmly on the door, she calls out, saying:

“Boss? Heeey, Alphi! I got Mister Dimitri here…let me in, okay? Can’t open the door with carrying him…”
